Silence Is Not Always Golden!

My Morning Cup of Coffee – Since I was a child, I have heard “Silence Is Golden.” No doubt a ploy to keep talkative little ones like me quiet. As I got older, it became a personal quote to keep little ones quiet and suggest someone is talking too much. According to Ask.com, It has been said that in the English language, the idiomatic expression “silence is golden” dates to 1831. A poet by the name of Thomas Carlyle coined the phrase when he translated a German poem, Sartor Resartus. Written in the movie “A Thousand Words” with Eddie Murphy, it was simply, “if you’re going to speak, make sure it’s something worth saying.” He only had one thousand words left to discover what mattered most. The movie reminds us that our words profoundly impact the universe. Is it helpful? The tongue can give life, but it can also take it away. Silence then is golden, and words can be just as golden when they are effective. Sometimes we need to get quiet, not just with our mouths but with our minds so that when we release words, they will create change that matters. #Coffeeforthought
